File naming

C

File naming

In the final artwork, each of the required colour separations should be saved with the suffix _<Colour>.pdf to keep track of which file contains which colour separation for printing.

D

(Flat) files without layers

The final artwork should be the latest point at which only layout elements on the same layer are in the PDF. To create a file, it is recommended to create a separate layer for each colour separation, in which only those layout elements are placed that are actually being reproduced in the respective colour. In the final artwork, it can be reviewed if all data is in the right layers. The individual pages of the layout can then be stored relatively quickly as separate PDF copies. Within InDesign or Illustrator, in the layer options of each layer, the boxes Show Layer and Print Layer should be checked so they are both visible and printed, i.e. displayed in the PDF. PDF files can also be scaled down and optimised in Adobe Acrobat. Since this step cannot be undone, creating a backup copy is recommended:
